SHRIKANTILAL [BACHUSHETH] SHRIKANTILAL [BACHUSHETH] JADAVJI KANJI SHIVJI LIBRARY of the Dr. B M N College of Home Science is housed in the 8th floor of The New Education Complex. It is spread over 238.41 sq. mts. It has a seating capacity for over 100 readers.
The collection consists of over 5000 books and over 50 journals and magazines, from the subject specializations of Home Science, which include Food Science & Nutrition, Food Science & Quality Control, Family Resource Management, Human Development, Textiles & Clothing. There are also books on Interior Design & Decoration, Fashion Designing, Textile Designing, English Literature and Fiction, books related to Gender issues, Environment and Ecology, Entrepreneurship, Consumer education, and Reference Sources and books on Computer Programming and Applications.
Working Hours
The working hours of the library are as follows:
Weekdays: 9.30 A M to 5.30 P M
Saturdays: 9.30 A M to 3.30 P M
The library remains closed on Sundays and Holidays
MEMBERSHIP TO THE LIBRARY
In addition to the members of the constituent colleges of the Seva Mandal Education Society, outsiders are also eligible to be members of the library. This category includes ex-students and ex-staff of SMES, Teaching staff and students of other educational institutions and professionals and members of the general public.
Membership charges are as follows:
Activities of the Library:
- Regular display of books according to important days and events
- Display of articles from newspapers pertaining to general awareness, subjects taught, special events etc.;
- Regular display of new books and list of books added to the library
- Scholar’s cards are given to first two rank holders and subject toppers from all faculties.
- Book Exhibition held on 6th & 7th Dec 2007. Three booksellers and agents participated. Library along with the English Dept held screenings of Films and videos on social issues such as environment, consumer awareness, and myths about superstitions.
Membership - Apart from the students and staff members of the institutions under Seva Mandal Education Society, the library also extends its facilities to the general public.
The membership details are as follows:
(Categories 1 & 2 will be allowed to borrow books for one week. The discretion of book issue will lie with the Librarian. All users are requested to get a letter of recommendation from their parent institution or any other identification proof.)

The Librarian Mrs. Vidya Subramanian conducted the following activities:
The Librarian Mrs. Vidya Subramanian :
- Oriented all FY students in the month of June and July 2009
- Delivered lecture to the TY B.Sc (FRM) students on ‘Writing a Bibliography;
- Attended a refresher course in Library how Information Science titled “ Futuristic Library Environment’, Conducted by Academic Staff College & Mumbai University Library. 5/01/2009 to 24/01/2009.
- Attended State level seminar on “Reaccredidation and Quality Enhancement in Library services” on 18th Feb 2009 at Vaze College of Arts Science & Commerce , Mulund.
Special Activities for Students
- Silent Speed reading study was conducted for FY B.Sc on 24th Aug 08. A Speed reading workshop was conducted on 28th & 29th Aug for FY B.Sc by Mrs. Geeta Nair, Faculty, Travel & Tourism, SCNIP.
- The Knowledge Centre was inaugurated on 10th Sept 2009 by Prof. Harsha Parekh, Prof Emeritus, S.N.D.T Women’s University.
- The library took up Institutional Membership of the American Centre Library.
